Stuffed Anniversary

As I waited impatiently at City Lobster for Joel to walk in, I watched all of the couples enjoying their meals, feeding each other, whispering sweet nothings, and looking into each other's eyes (barf). I probably rolled my eyes a few times. I'm horrible, right? Yes, I was tired, hungry, drained and felt nauseated beyond belief from being tired, hungry and drained, but when I saw him walk in at 8:26 pm [26 minutes after our reservation] with a big cake box, roses and a shiny red bag, I thought to myself, "Self! How could you be such a brat!?" After we got seated, I realized how "falling over" hungry I really was. I hadn't eaten since 4:00 pm, so already, I was 2 hours behind my normal eating schedule [I eat a meal, snack, meal, snack every 2 hours -- works great for my metabolism! Try it!].
Like any other restaurant on V day, there was a prix fixe menu. I chose the Lobster Bisque and Wedge Salad to start, then the 2lb. Stuffed Atlantic Salmon for the main face stuffer meal.

-Bisque? Cold and salty.
-Wedge Salad? Easily something that could have been made at home. Nothing stood out. Iceburg lettuce, bacon crumbles and blue cheese dressing on the side were all fair. It was up to my lobster to redeem this restaurant...

The lobster was nice and hot, unlike the bisque. The middle was stuffed with enourmous amounts of juicy crab with bits of carrots and celery. Along with the cream sauce (sorry, I don't recall what that sauce was since I zoned out once I saw this baby walking towards the table) the flavor from the yummy 'green' stuff (which I know isn't the best thing for you) was an added flavor bonus. The tail was a typical lobster tail. I added some butter and tobasco for something different but it was buttery and better on its own.

Here's Joel's 3lb. friend next to mine. It was great to be so full, so fast and then watch him eat every single part of his lobster for the next 15 minutes.

FYI- You'll never find a better peeler...

Oh, and in the shiny red bag...

And my cake was Bizcocho Dominicano [Dominican Cake] with dulce de leche filling. Have you had Dominican Cake? If not, I suggest you try a piece at least once in your life. It's not your typical yellow cake with random flavored filling. This cake has a distinct sweet, moist sugary flavor, with a marshmallow sticky icing, combined with fillings like guava jam, pineapple or strawberry. Check out Aunt Clara's Dominican Cooking to see a standard recipe and to learn more.
Luckily, we get our cakes from a neighborhood 'cake lady' who is great about adjusting the amount of sugar added to each cake when requested.

UPDATE! - Here are some Dominican Cakes made by our 'Cake Lady'

[I know this wasn't exactly the healthiest meal, and I soooooooo didn't even go for the 'lighter' items that were all present and available, but for special occasions -- just treat yourself. Save the WW points, save the calories and walk a little extra the day before, of, or after. It always helps me balance out meals like this]

Well, by the end of our meal, I'm sure there was another 'me' waiting by the bar for her boyfriend, impatiently, rolling her eyes...at us.

Miss you chocolate :(
