Sure you can wait on line at Uncle Louie G's for ice cream on Union St., but if you want to treat yourself and splurge a little, go around the corner on 5th ave. and check out Bierkraft. The picture on the door of their popular ice cream sandwich, featured in NY Mag's "Top 8 Ice Cream Sandwiches" was too tempting to pass up this past Sunday. This massive $4.95 treat is made with Michel Cluizel chocolate, Vermont Cultured butter, organic flour & eggs, Muscavado sugar, Madagascar vanilla, sea salt and Tilburg Dutch Brown ale and hits the spot for chocolics like myself. The chocolate chunks are HUGE. It only got better as the gelato started to melt and the brownie reached close to room temperature. I kept putting it down after a few bites because of the brain freeze, but that was pointless because I kept going back for one more bite. Joel says that this is going to be my main motivation for going to Park Slope now -- Of course it won't be. So what if I want to visit my family 4x a week!?
If you're ever in Park Slope, take a quick peek into Bierkraft for gourmet, organic chocolate, cheeses, cured meats and of course a whole wall full of over 900 beers from all over. Walk straight to the back, hang a right and pick your Shameless Ice Cream Sandwich.
