Yesterday at work, V yelled across the hallway to tell me about this unbelievable promotion on one of my favorite blogs, Midtown Lunch.
This promotion for FREE lunch was no joke! I know, when you hear 'free' anything, you automatically look for 'the catch' but there is no catch! We made our reservation and wondered if it was a hoax, even though Midtown Lunch swore it wasn't.
Even walking to the restaurant on 54th between Park and Lex. today, we were still wondering, "How could this be?" --"Did we have to bring something, do something or will we have to buy something?" -- But no, its true! Make your reservation, mention Midtown Lunch when you order, and you get 1 Appetizer, 1 Entree and 1 non-alcoholic beverage for free. This 'Free Lunch On Tuesdays' promotion will take place every Tuesday during the summer months only, in attempts to boost their lunch crowd, so make your reservations now! I already had people tell me they can't get through b/c the phone lines are busy or that they are already booked until the end of the month! (**Update 5/11/08- Per comment below, you can still book reservations the Monday before the 'Free Tuesday' so this month is still up for grabs!**) If you are reading this and want to head down there to take a chance, you MIGHT get a table.
Volstead opened its doors last August and hosts happy hour for the Midtown East crowd and caters to bar hoppers on the weekends. Our waitress said Saturday nights are definitley their busiest. I can see why. The restaurant/bar area is roomy and I didn't take a good look, but the girls said their drink menu looks tempting. The kitchen is open until 2:00 am every day, and the bar is open until 4:00 am on the weekends. I would definitley head back here on a late night for some apps or for business lunches.
V and Kristen plan on going back for a Happy Hour, or even a Sat. night in the city.
Here are a few snaps from lunch...
For my FREE Appetizer, I ordered the crabcake pops--Deep fried crab cakes on wooden sticks. Lots o' crab.

I was told that you had to make the reservation the Monday before you wanted to go for the free lunch. So they said I had to wait until the 12th of May to make a reservation for the 13th and so forth. Were they lying? I heard nothing about them being fully booked through May.
