New York, New York Supermarket and Pho for a Rainy Day

Ick! It was a horrible rainy, cold and windy Friday in NYC. Joel suggested we warm up at Pho Bac so that I wouldn't get sick since I was out in the rain for a while today, waiting for a bus that never came. I had some time to kill as I waited for him to get out of work, but no worries. It was my chance to do some grocery shopping right next door in New York, New York Supermarket. I heart grocery shopping in general, but stepping into this Asian Supermarket really put me in a better mood, and brought back lots of food memories. And apparently, nobody really cares if you roam around taking pictures.

Stepping into New York, New York Supermarket.

Mama Sita's Seasoning Packets! Still had lots at home, so no need to pick any up today.

Can't forget Shrimp Chips. The bag still looks the same from when I was a kid.

Something for everyone...

This chicken stood out so I just had to capture it.

You know you're filipino if you like...

Got rice? You know you will always find rice at an Asian Supermarket.

Growing up, Dad always kept (and keeps) several cans of spam on hand. I picked up a few cans for him. Did you know SPAM is now available in "Light"? Perfect. Hopefully he won't taste the difference.

It was just what I needed, and afterwards, I filled up next door at Pho Bac with my rainy day, itch in my throat, feeling blue, feeling yucky chicken noodle soup #21. Condiments include Sriracha, jalapenos, basil, lime and bean sprouts. (I don't use the bean sprouts b/c it brings down the temp. of the broth).
Thanks for taking this shot Joel! I'm so proud.

Watercress sauted with garlic and oil. Nothing fancy, just plain, simple and fresh ingredients.

New York, New York is your typical busy Asian Supermarket with all of your favorite frozen and/or refrigerated imported products from the homeland, plus imported snacks, seasonings, spices and candy that remind me of my childhood. I love it. Similar supermarkets that are just steps away are Hong Kong Supermarket, Kam Lun and Great Wall. You'll also find tons TONS of small eateries, restaurants, produce stands and bakeries along Broadway. Take the train into Elmhurst Ave. one of these days to explore. You'll get REAL homestyle food for a decent price.

Now that you mention it, it does annoy me that adding the bean sprouts cools the soup a bit. I like the bean sprouts though. =(
