My first Diwali Festival - Darbar

In short, according to Wikipedia, Diwali (or Deepavali) is a one of the biggest Indian holidays, and a significant festival in Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Jainism. It is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs across the globe as the "Festival of Lights," where the lights or lamps signify victory of good over the evil within every human being.

I remember last year on Diwali's main celebration day, V's mom sent her a package with yummy zip lock bags full of home made Ribbon Pakoda and candied pecans for Diwali. Super intrigued (and nosey) by this, I wanted to learn more about the holiday--and so did others at work--so we demanded to celebrate this year, and we did. On Tuesday, V initiated our 1st Annual Diwali Festival with a trip to Darbar's All You Can Eat Lunch buffet.

One of the classiest buffets I've ever been to. I'm still new to Indian (Northern & Southern) cuisine, and learning more and more from V, but I know good food when I try it, and I know that I will be back to Darbar. This doesn't make the Midtown Lunch standards since the buffet is over $10, but if you're ever looking to spend a little bit more to stuff your face with good Indian food in a laid back atmosphere, go to Darbar.
Everyone really enjoyed their food and went back for 2nds and 3rds. Darbar's lunch buffet included:

Tandoori Chicken

Goan fish curry (one of the favorites)

Kheer (rice pudding dessert)

Palak Paneer (spinach with cottage cheese - my favorite)

Among others were...
-Aloo Gobi (Potato/Cauliflower)
-Vegetable Jalfrezi (mixed veggies in the tangy sauce)
-Goat Curry
-Dal (yellow lentils)
